Plus d’un tiers des données sur les aires protégées des pays d’Afrique, Caraïbes et Pacifique ont été améliorées ces deux dernières années, grâce à un effort collaboratif entre le Centre mondial de suivi de la conservation – Programme des Nations Unies pour l’environnement (CMSC-PNUE) et l’UICN, par le biais du Programme pour la biodiversité et la gestion des aires protégées (BIOPAMA). Increasing economic benefits from Fiji’s Kai industry to improve livelihoods of rural communities

The Freshwater clam, Batissa violacea, known locally as Kai, has been the topic of discussion in recent workshops in Fiji focussed on local fisheries. Dr Milika Sobey from the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), has been heading the Kai project which looks at increasing economic benefits from Fiji’s Kai fishery to improve the livelihoods of rural communities. The project is funded by the French Pacific Funds administered through the French Embassy in Suva. …
