Who are WCPA Young Professionals?
WCPA YPs are full members of the Commission, who are 35 or under. They’re engaged in practical work in protected area field for at least 3 years and have demonstrated ability and desire to be involved in protected area activities at global level.
Our Vision is a community of protected area leaders of different generations, geographies, and genders learning and working together within and through IUCN.
Our Mission is to foster intergenerational partnership between established and emerging protected area leaders to contribute in meaningful ways to the work of WCPA and broader IUCN.
Our Goal for 2009 – 2012 is to increase proactive and meaningful participation of emerging protected area leaders in the work of WCPA.
Our Objectives:
- Increased membership of young conservation leaders in the WCPA (to reach the target of 15 % of WCPA members of 35 or under by 2012);
- Increased and improved involvement of young members on the Task Forces, Specialist Groups, Projects, Programs, etc. of the WCPA, in collaboration with established leaders and members;
- Contribution to professional and capacity development for young WCPA members;
- To ensure YP voices are heard at global conservation events;
- Raised awareness of WCPA, and IUCN among youth-oriented environmental and sustainability organizations, networks, universities, and initiatives;
- Greater recognition and implementation of Intergenerational Partnership for Sustainability as an important partnership strategy within the IUCN.
