Pakistan’s future success depends on the country making investment in developing human resources, Prof. Ahsan Iqbal, Federal Minister for Planning & Development, said at the Pakistan Environmental Reporting Awards organised by ACCA Pakistan (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) and WWF Pakistan.
The Federal Minister congratulated ACCA and WWF Pakistan for their contribution in the green economy and sustainability reporting in Pakistan, and said : “Pakistan’s success depends on the investment we make in human resource development. Businesses and individuals will have to take the first step in order to see progress in the future,” and he commended the event for raising important issues.
The event, which recognises businesses for the quality of their reports which provide information on their economic, environmental and social performance, saw six orgaisnations praised for the efforts .
The winners for Sustainability Reporting were Attock Refinery Ltd, with ICI Pakistan Ltd as runner up. The winners in the Environmental Reporting category was Security Papers Ltd, with Qarshi Industries Pvt. Ltd as runner up.
There were also commendations for first time entries for the British Council Pakistan and the Institute of Business Administration, Sukkur.
Keynote Speaker Marriyam Aurangzeb, MNA & Chair, Parliamentary Taskforce on MDG - post 2015 process also praised the initiative of ACCA – WWF Pakistan for pioneering and advancing the agenda of sustainability reporting in Pakistan which she said was comparable to many developed countries. She emphasised the importance of organisations such as ACCA and WWF continuing to work to raise awareness in the public sector and media.
The ACCA-WWF Pakistan Environmental Reporting Awards, which are endorsed by UNDP, BCSD, PICG, IUCN and Ministry of Climate Change was attended by 170 participants from corporate, NGOs, media and public sector organisations. Serena Hotels and JS Bank were the platinum and gold sponsors respectively.
