Mangrove for the Future Viet Nam - Small Grant Facility - 2012 call for proposals was announced in December 2011. IUCN received 43 concept notes by the deadline. Seven proposal out of 43 have been shorted listed.

On 14 - 15 March 2012 in Hanoi, IUCN already organzied Project Cycle Management (PCM) training for representatives of 7 shorted listed organizations. These organizations submitted full proposals to IUCN by 31 March 2012 for final review.

On 8 May 2012, IUCN and NCB members had a meeting and approved 4 grantees. They include: 

1. Giao Xuan Community-based Ecotourism Cooperative:

Develop a model of cooperative women producing and selling souvenirs as an additional livelihood to reduce mangrove overexploitation in Giao Xuan Commune – the buffer zone of Xuan Thuy National Park, Nam Dinh Province and replicate it in mangroves areas of Nui Thanh District, Quang Nam province and Tan Phu Dong District, Tien Giang Province.

2. Quang Nam Fishing Association:

Developing Nypa Palm community-based management mechanism in Tich Tay Village, Tam Nghia Commune, Nui Thanh District, Quang Nam Province.

3. Phu Thoi Pagoda:

Participation of buhhdists community in conservation and development of mangroves in Loi Quan Island in Tien Giang Province.

4. Quang Tri Center for Environment Monitoring and Technology

Environment improvement and restoration and sustainable development of mangroves ecosystem in Tan Xuan Village, Gio Viet Commune, Gio Linh District, Thach Han Downstream, Quang Tri Province.
