• Bangladesh: IUCN Bangladesh tries to address issues of water quality in different water bodies; assessment, conservation and management of wetlands; and biodiversity through attainment of increased awareness and understanding of the nature and effects of quality of return flow on ecosystems; a better understanding of the causes and effects of increasing salinity intrusion/ level in the coastal ecosystem; environmental assessment of the present day water management and practices with focus on fisheries and ecosystems; and raising public awareness of the impacts of climate change and the IPCC/ UNFCCC processes.
     
  • China: Sustainable water resource management is a key issue in China. Together with members and partners, IUCN China is working to build capacity in integrated water resource management through multi-stakeholder platforms and the concept of environmental flows.

  • India: Watersheds in the Indian Himalayas are experiencing impacts from population and economic growth, as well as from changes in land use and the climate. IUCN India, with support from Nokia, is exploring nature-based solutions to increase ecosystem and livelihood resilience to these changes.
     
  • Lao PDR: IUCN Lao PDR is working in Nam by bringing diverse stakeholders to the table to improve understanding of this resource, enhance effective governance and raise awareness of the rising pressures on Lao PDR's water resources.
     
  • Nepal: Since 1997, IUCN Nepal has been working to raise awareness and contribute to the compliance of Ramsar Convention through many initiatives. The informal wetland group facilitated by IUCN has made significant contributions in dealing with sustainable and wise use of wetland issues, implementation of Ramsar Convention and preparation of the National Wetland Policy, 2003.
     
  • Pakistan: IUCN along with government of Pakistan works on Balochistan Partnerships for Sustainable Development Programme.
     
  • Viet Nam: IUCN is supporting the government of Viet Nam and others on a number of projects that focus on water and wetland. These include Mekong Region Water Dialogues, Water for Food and Ecosystem Initiative, Applying the Ecosystem Approach to wetlands management, Mekong Wetlands Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable Use Programme, Huong River Basin Integrated Management.
