In September 2010, the European Commission approved a project for the conservation of oceanic Posidonia meadows on the Andalusian coast aiming to halt the loss of this key ecosystem on the Mediterranean coast of Andalusia.

This LIFE+ project started in 2011 and will continue until 2013 to ensure the long-term conservation of the Andalusian seagrass by applying protective measures and creating awareness among people, especially the inhabitants of the coast, of the importance that seagrass has for their quality of life and sustainable development.

The NGO Oceánidas, an IUCN Member, has made a documentary about this project. To view, click here.
