The importance of institutions and CSOs working in the field of nature conservation and sustainable development is increasingly recognized. To ensure effective participation in this process, their resources including knowledge, skills and experience in implementing actions for achieving policy objectives should be correspondingly improved. …

Institutional Support to the management of Protected Areas in Albania
The main project objective is to strengthen both central and local offices of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Water Administration of Albania in developing their capacities to systemically plan and manage protected areas. Environment for People in the Dinaric Arc
The Dinaric Arc in South Eastern Europe is an area with a rich natural and cultural heritage. The region still hosts almost unspoilt forests and healthy populations of large carnivores (bear, lynx, wolf, golden jackal), and is the most water-rich area in the Mediterranean in terms of freshwater ecosystems. However these qualities are under threat due to current uncontrolled development and previous socio-political circumstances. Building capacities on EU Nature policies
The accession to EU is not a smooth process for Western Balkan countries, but a long journey with a number of challenges on the way. The process includes synchronization of the national legislation with the EU one, ensuring its implementation by introducing new acts at national level, genuine involvement of all stakeholders in the process of decision-making, improvement of regional cooperation etc. Additionally, raising awareness and capacity building for the implementation of the EU policies and strategies are of the utmost importance for a successful accession process. Current IUCN’s project focuses on three EU policy areas which have a great impact on nature conservation, while geographically covering three Western Balkan countries: FYR of Macedonia, Montenegro, and Serbia. …
