EU grants 2 million euros to overseas biodiversity projects
22 March 2011 | News story
In March 2011, the European Commission (EC) decided to provide 2 million euros to the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity and ecosystem services in European overseas territories. A call for proposals will be published in May 2011.
The grant provides seed money with a view to setting up a voluntary scheme to promote the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity and ecosystem services in the European Outermost Regions and Overseas Countries and Territories, known as the BEST scheme.
The projects shall showcase the BEST scheme and prepare the ground for a governance structure with a view to longer term support.
The financial support was originally suggested by the European Parliament.
