Project Title: Efficient and Renewable Public Lighting for Urban Centres

Project Summary:
Focuses on energy efficient lighting with the aim to retrofit the current sets of inefficient Mercury and Vapour street lights with more energy efficient LED and HID lights and also the installation of some solar street lights. Maintenance for the street lights in Majuro and Ebeye are costing the Power utility approximately USD500K annually. A total of 800 street lights will be replaced. This retrofitting exercise is projected to save the utility USD300K per annum. The Ministry of Public Works is responsible for installation and maintenance of the retrofitted street lights, in collaboration with the Ministry of Resources and Development and the Marshalls Energy Company.
Project Development:
A project coordinator has been recruited. The bidding phase for the project has been completed, samples are currently being tested and finalisation on tender award is underway. Activities are currently proceeding onto the Procurement Phase.
