WBCSD Consortium

About the WBCSD funding consortium

The WBCSD is a CEO-led organization of nearly 200 forward-thinking companies and 60 regional partners that galvanizes the global business community to create a sustainable future for business, society and the environment. Our vision is that by 2050 an increased population of 9 billion live well and within the limits of the planet.

The WBCSD is the exclusive WCC business sponsor. Its work on biodiversity and ecosystems services helps build companies’ capacity to measure, manage and mitigate ecosystem impacts and dependencies through the development of business decision-making tools, and positive engagement in public policy discussions focused on biodiversity and ecosystem services.

The WBCSD and IUCN established a cooperation agreement on business and ecosystems after the Bangkok congress, renewed after the Barcelona congress.

The WBCSD, together with member companies Hitachi, Holcim, Mondi, Shell, Syngenta,Vale and Korea BCSD, established a funding consortium making it the main sponsoring business organization of the WCC.

With the help of our business consortium IUCN has created the Business and Economy Pavilion (BEP). A unique platform to help host business events and encourage disscusions and collaboration on business and biodiversity related issues. The pavilion showcases how business practices, market trends, consumer preferences and policy frameworks can be transformed to generate benefits for biodiversity and livelihoods depending on natural resources.

Through its support of the congress the WBCSD funding consortium highlights the positive impacts its progressive business initiatives have on protecting and maintaining ecosystems. It also provides tangible company support to the IUCN enabling it to run an effective member congress, and helping to set its forward program.
