IUCN Programme on IPBES

In April 2012 - after years of international negotiations - the world's governments agreed to establish IPBES as the leading intergovernmental body for assessing the state of the planet's biodiversity, its ecosystems and the essential services they provide to society.

IUCN  has been involved in the IPBES negotiations since the very beginning and strongly supports ongoing work leading to the Platform's full functionality. As requested by its Members, IUCN will support not only the IPBES design phase but also the delivery of its first work programme 2014 - 2018.  This web section provides an exhaustive overview of IUCN's ongoing contribution to IPBES.
