The TRAFFIC
Network
TRAFFIC
is a joint wildlife trade monitoring programme of WWF-World
Wide Fund For Nature and IUCN The World Conservation
Union. Since its founding by IUCN in 1976, it has evolved
to become the world's largest programme of its kind
and a global expert on wildlife trade issues. In the
recent years the TRAFFIC Network has expanded its scope
to 21 offices.
A significant part of TRAFFIC's
work is linked to its involvement with the world's largest
conservation treaty of wildlife trade, the Convention
on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild
Fauna and Flora (CITES).
TRAFFIC aims to ensure that trade
in wild plants and animals is not a threat to the conservation
of nature and that it is in accordance with domestic
and international laws and agreements. TRAFFIC's reports
and advice provide a sound technical basis for the establishment
of effective conservation policies and programmes for
wildlife in trade.
