IUCN-Med call for species experts
16 August 2011 | News story
The IUCN Centre for Mediterranean Cooperation (IUCN-Med) is calling for voluntary experts to submit their expression of interest to contribute to the Red List assessment of different taxonomic groups in the Mediterranean Region, taking also part in the IUCN project entitled Mediterranean Biodiversity Assessment Phase II Responding to major gaps in knowledge in the Mediterranean region.
IUCN looks for experts for the assessment of the following taxonomic groups in Mediterranean countries: high altitude plants, butterflies, saproxylic beetles and dung beetles.
Experts selected will be invited to participate in the training workshop on IUCN Red Lists, to take place in 2012. The objective is to develop the necessary skills to afterwards compile and integrated updated information on species in the process of creating an IUCN Red List, both at international and Mediterranean level.
IUCN-Med envisages to ensure a regional balance and representation. However, due to budgetary constraints, only selected experts will be able to attend.
Deadline for submitting applications: 10 december 2011.
