2011 Call of the Leadership Programme in the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System (SAM)
This initiative of the Mexican Fund for the Conservation of Nature (FMCN)and The Summit Foundation opens the 2011 Call with the focus on Fisheries and Marine Protected Areas. They look for active leaders in the SAM region, with innovative conservation projects. Deadline is September 19, 2010.
Fundación para la Protección de Lancetilla, Punta Sal y Texiguat (PROLANSATE), IUCN Member in Honduras, sent us the first official photograph of a jaguar in the Jeannette Kawas National Park . This is a result of the efforts made by the PANTHERA, ICF project, with the support of PROLANSATE Foundation and shows the importance of this National Park as a unique site that is home for a wide variety of flora y fauna species.

University for International Cooperación (UCI), IUCN Member in Costa Rica Rica presents its monthly newsletter, with information on their programmes of studies and articles on environmental issues at national and international level.
Last August, colleagues from Mexico and Guatemala shared experiences on basin management in the Tacana Volcano area. The exchange was aimed to bring together nationals from both countries in order to look for solutions that increase social and environmental well being.
This newsletter shows a synthesis of the impacts achieved by the six consortium that implement the Alianzas project in Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, El Salvador and Guatemala, with the Norwegian Cooperation support.
IUCN starts the initiative: "Good governance of water for adaptation: Building capacity to climate change adaptation based on ecosystems at the national and regional levels in Mesoamerica”. This project is part of the International Climate Initiative.
This new social and environmental network, part of the Pacto por la Vida initiative which is sponsored by the IUCN, looks to bring together the Latin American community under sustainability and environmental awareness umbrella. It has reached almost 1200 users from the region since its launching, two months ago.
Community and IUCN agree integrated management for Samala river
IUCN and the association of communities Metrópoli de los Altos signed a memorandum of understanding for the implementation of a model for Water Resources Integrated Management based on micro watershed. The aim of the agreement is to improve the environmental conditions in the Samala river basin, Quetzaltenango, Guatemala.

In this system, IUCN Members will be able to report their contributions to the fulfillment of the Resolutions and Recommendations of the 4th World Conservation Congress, 2008.
