Our Programme Activities
 

Supporting and strengthen management of World Heritage in the Arab States

Two Regional workshops organized by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, Regional Office for West Asia (IUCN - ROWA) and co- funded with the Arab Regional Centre for World Heritage (ARC-WH) were launched.

These regional workshops give attention to: World Heritage preliminary lists, global exceptional value, nomination files for World Heritage and the management effectiveness of World Heritage in the Arab States. Thirty experts and technicians from 13 Arab countries participated in the ten day event, five days for each workshop, which were considered as the launch of the Tabe’a program’s activities.

IUCN ROWA takes on a Chapter for the Jordan's Third National Communication to UNFCCC

Selected Catchment Area - Jordan

IUCN ROWA takes up writing a very important chapter for the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Third National Communication Report . A team of experts headed by IUCN ROWA in coordination with the United Nations Developement Programme in Jordan, have started its journey to write up one of the most important chapters in the report : " The Vulnerability & Adaptation Assessment". The team will work together inorder to review different vulnerability and adaptation frameworks and later come up with an approach to help understand the potential long-term impacts of climate change on Jordan.

Climate Change Local Knowledge Assessments in Bani Hashem Villages

 

During the months of November and December 2013, IUCN ROWA funded by ICARDA (The Internation Center for Agricultural Research in Dryland Areas) has undergone climate Change Local Knowledge Assessments in Bani Hashem Villages.   
This assignment is an initial step towards a joint project on establishing Climate - Smart Village for ICARDA's Dryland program were gender is mainstreamed.
The assessment using the CRiSTAL tool, identified community perspectives on Hazards related to climate change in accordance with the litrature. Fifty people (Agricultural representatives) from Bani Hashem villages were assessed on their local knowledge based on the results hazards from CRiSTAL. A gender assessement report was later produced .

The Near East Forestry and Range Commission (NEFRC) is coming to Amman

FAO are taking advantage of the 21st Near East Forestry and Range Commission (NEFRC) to hold the 3rd Near East Forestry Week (NEFW) in Amman, Jordan in 26th January 2014.

The 3rd NEFW will be held to foster and encourage the participation of the private sector, Non-Governmental Organizations, Community Based Organizations and Associations, and the media from the entire Near East and North Africa region.

Marine and Coastal Management Programme Activities in Tyre

The one hour talk-show focused on the main objectives of Sustainable fisheries management for improved livelihoods of the coastal fishing community in Tyre (South Lebanon), which is implemented by IUCN Regional Office for West Asia (ROWA) and funded by DROSOS Foundation.
