IUCN Council elects Ms. Meena Gupta as Vice Chair of the Governance and Constituency Committee

The IUCN Council in its first meeting held on January 30, 2013 at Gland, Switzerland has elected Ms. Meena Gupta as vice-chair of the Governance and Constituency Committee.  

The IUCN Council is the principal governing body of IUCN, the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources. The Council is responsible for the general control of all affairs of IUCN, subject to the authority of the World Conservation Congress. It is with great pride that we announce that Ms. Meena Gupta from India has been elected as vice-chair of the Governance and Consituency Committee, in addition to her role as Regional Councillor of south and east Asia.  

Ms. Gupta has been involved with policy formulation and guidance on matters pertaining to the environment, forests and idigenous peoples in her position as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Environment and Frests, Government of India for several years. With her extensive knolwedge of governance issues and awareness of policy formulation by government, Ms. Gupta will be able to support IUCN in its efforts to influence and impact country and regional policies.
