Ambassador Masahiko Horie appointed to IUCN Council

19 April 2013 | News story

The IUCN Council has appointed Ambassador Masahiko Horie from Japan to fill a vacancy as a Regional Councillor from South and East Asia.

This follows the resignation, for health reasons, of Ambassador Shinichi Kitajima (Japan), who was elected Regional Councillor by the 2012 IUCN World Conservation Congress.

In accordance with the IUCN Statutes and Regulations, Council invited IUCN Members from South and East Asia to propose names to fill the vacant position. Council then elected Ambassador Horie from among the proposed candidates.

Ambassador Horie will fill the vacancy for the remainder of the term, i.e. until the end of the 2016 Congress. Click here to view Ambassador Horie’s CV.
