16 New Members Join IUCN

At its 72nd Meeting, which took place from 2 to 4 February 2009 at IUCN Headquarters, the IUCN Council admitted 16 new Members.

A diverse and influential group of governmental agencies, national and international non-governmental organisations from Africa, Asia, Europe, Meso & South America, North America & the Caribbean, and Oceania, these newly admitted Members will share and support the Union’s mission which is to influence, encourage and assist societies throughout the world to conserve the integrity and diversity of nature and to ensure that any use of natural resources is equitable and ecologically sustainable. This image shows the courtship behavior of Indian Bull frogs (Holobatrachus tigerinus). During the monsoon, the breeding males become bright yellow in color, while females remain dull. The prominent blue vocal sacs of male produce strong nasal mating call.
