Protected Areas Day, Tuesday 19 October

Running in parallel with side events at COP10, the Rio Conventions’ Ecosystems and Climate Change Pavilion will bring together lectures, displays, and many other activities around a number of thematic days. IUCN, through our World Commission on Protected Areas and the Programme on Protected Areas, is in charge of the Protected Areas day.

Countdown 2010 closing ceremony, Wednesday 20 October

The IUCN’s Countdown 2010 initiative celebrates its partners’ achievements and launches a new initiative at the CBD COP 10 in Nagoya, Japan, on 20 October 2010 at 20:10 in the evening. The Countdown 2010 Biodiversity Award will be given to the best achievement for biodiversity among Countdown 2010 partners. 

Communicating Biodiversity, Wednesday 20 October

Biodiversity is the world’s most elaborate scientific concept, but also, potentially, its greatest story. This side event on Communication, Education and Public Awareness (CEPA) provides expert insight into the challenges communicators face, the common pitfalls of biodiversity communication, and the practical solutions that will inspire public and political action.

IUCN Constituency Event, Monday 25 October

Representatives of IUCN Members, Commission members, Councillors and Secretariat present at CBD COP10 are warmly invited to attend an informal networking evening on 25 October 2010 from 20:00 – 22:00, hosted by IUCN and the Japan Committee for IUCN in the Shirotori Gardens.

International Business and Ecosystems Dialogue, Tuesday 26 October

IUCN, the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) and Nippon Keidanren are organizing a high-level “International Business and Ecosystems Dialogue” .
Around 100 decision-makers representing business, governments and NGOs are invited to have an open discussion on different topics related to business and biodiversity.

2012 World Conservation Congress Memorandum of Understanding Signing Ceremony and special session on the Congress, Thursday 28 October 2010

Presentations will be made on the Strategic Plan for the preparation of the 2012 World Conservation Congress, the impact of IUCN Resolutions and Recommendations on international conservation, and on how to enhance international cooperation via the 2012 World Conservation Congress.
