Beyond Carbon Business Forum February 2012 in Melbourne
24 January 2012 | News story
La Trobe University invites you to attend a Business Forum on 'Sustainable Development: Beyond Carbon' 21 February in Melbourne, Australia.
From James Ayers of behalf of CEC members at La Trobe University
Sustainable development is being corralled by the carbon accounting debate, but it needs to engage with issues much broader than concerns about carbon emissions. Organisations have the opportunity to contribute to other environmental imperatives and social issues whilst maintaining their social licence to operate.
The Forum will bring together experts in sustainable development from industry and academia to provide insight into achieving long term improvement for society and institutions and is being run as part of the La Trobe Institute for Social and Environmental Sustainability. Forum topics will be in line with the IUCN approach that when knowledge is available it empowers people and institutions to use it, allowing them to participate more effectively in decision making to improve laws, policies and institutions.
- discuss climate change response in Australia and internationally;
- consider the broader approaches to sustainable development beyond the environmental issues; and
- promote partnerships between government, business and society.
Who should attend:
Business Leaders, Community and Government Leaders, Policy Makers, Sustainability and Corporate Citizenship Practitioners, NGO leaders, Human Resource Executives, Business Strategists
The program will commence at 9:00 am on the 21st February with registration from 8:30am. The forum will conclude at 4:30 pm.
The forum will discuss the social and environmental impacts of renewable energy and carbon. The role of business, issues of human rights and related links to community development.
