The
IUCN Centre for Mediterranean Cooperation, in cooperation with
the International Association for Mediterranean Forests (IAMF), the
International Centre for Mediterranean Cultural Landscapes (ICMCL) and
the WWF Mediterranean Programme Office (WWF MedPO) held an Expert Workshop
on Forest Landscape Restoration (FLR) in the Mediterranean Region. This
workshop took place in Castellabate, Italy, between 8 and 10 May 2003.
The workshop was co-sponsored by the EC and was hosted by the Province
of Salerno together with the ICMCL.
The aim of the workshop was to:
-
Clarify the meaning of FLR concept; encourage ongoing and future
FLR activities on the ground; and demonstrate how FLR can contribute
to meeting broader national sustainable development goals within
the Mediterranean context
-
Develop partnerships among the stakeholders dealing with forest
restoration in the Mediterranean region and explore the potential
roles of different actors
-
Contribute to the regional, international and global processes relevant
to FLR (particularly UNFF); as well as demonstrate potential synergies
between international forest related commitments (UNFF, CBD, CCD
and UNFCCC) within the context of FLR;
-
Develop practical recommendations for the cooperation on FLR in
the Mediterranean region and improve links between the international
forest policy processes and practical forest management activities
on the ground
This CD provides all the technical input related to this initiative,
including information on forest landscape restoration, case studies,
technical papers, presentations as well as other interesting technical
and policy-related documents.
