MINING AND BIODIVERSITY CONSERVATION: BEST PRACTICE DIALOGUE PROGRESSES

IUCN and the International Council of Mining and Metals (ICMM) held a workshop on July 7-9, 2003 in IUCN Headquarters in Gland, Switzerland. The objective of the workshop was to frame recommendations for best practice guidelines for the implementation of the environment and biodiversity component of ICMM’s Sustainable Development Framework Principles. The workshop also looked into ICMM’s criteria for performance reporting, and the role of communities and indigenous peoples in decisions affecting them.

The first table below provides a series of papers that were presented at the workshop, the second table includes other documents of relevance to the meeting.
