AED Questionnaire - Help us update the African Elephant Database!

Do you have recent, reliable information on elephant distribution and/or abundance in any African country? If so, please help us update the African Elephant Database by completing one or more of the questionnaires below.

The questionnaire is in PDF format, and if you are familiar with Adobe Acrobat, you can complete it electronically. Otherwise print out the questionnaire and fill it in by hand, and send it to us at the address shown in the questionnaire.

You need to download at least two files, the questionnaire (PDF) and another PDF file containing maps and a table for the country for which you have information. There is a different map for each African Elephant Range State, so if you have information on more than one country, please download a map for each country and complete a separate questionnaire for each.

  1. Download the questionnaire by clicking here (PDF - 151 Kb) or here (MSWord, 80 kb). The first page of questionnaire contains full instructions for its completion and submission. The questionnaire is also available in French.
  2. Download the maps by selecting the country of expertise from the drop-down form below and clicking Go:
  3. You can complete the questionnaire electronically and submit it by email. Using the free Adobe Reader 7.0 or later (or Adobe Acrobat 6.0 or later) you can even make graphic corrections to the map on-screen and email us only your edits (not the entire map). Click here for brief instructions on how to do just that.

If you have data on individual elephant sightings, you can use our Elephant Point Record Sheet in PDF (83 Kb) or in DOC (47.3 Kb) format to record them.

Any information you provide may be featured in future African Elephant Status Reports, and your contribution will be duly acknowledged.

Thank you for helping us maintain the world's most comprehensive single-species database up-to-date!
