What are the Specialist Groups and what do they do?
SSC's 7,000 members are deployed in over 100 Specialist Groups, Disciplinary Groups, Task Forces, and Working Groups based on their area of expertise. Most of the Groups are taxon based. Each Specialist Group is led by a volunteer Chair.

Many of the Specialist Groups also act as Red List Authorities, carrying out Red List assessements and evaluating assessments for inclusion in the IUCN Red List. More information on Red List Authorities.
