This theme had carried forward
the work of the Economic Benefits Task Force established
in 1994. The Terms of Reference for the Theme
are to develop Guidelines for the Financing of
Protected Areas to be published as part of the
IUCN and Cardiff University Best Practice Guideline
Series. The Task Force commenced its work in 1999.
The Theme working jointly with
the IUCN Economic Services Unit has completed
the Guidelines The Guidelines were completed for
launching at the IUCN World Conservation Congress
in October, 2000.

Global Financial Survey of Natural Protected Areas
This survey is being conducted by the IUCN World Commission on Protected Areas for the purpose of collecting information on protected area budgets and expenditure. In addition the survey will seek information on the methods used to allocate funding and how the money is spent. The survey information is being sought on a country by country basis and in the first instance through the national protected area agency.
