Vth World Parks Congress - 7-17 September 2003, Durban, South Africa

Outputs of the Congress
This section contains a breakdown of the programme per day, details of the workshops, side events and short courses. It also provides information about the exhibition, the field trips and pre / post congress tours.
This is where new documents are posted and news disseminated. As well it host the daily coverage of the congress events and gives useful updates in the build up to the WPC. It includes links to the PARKS newsletter and a section for the Media, covering press releases, media briefs and details of media accreditation

Media Events & Press Conferences

Press events at Durban International Conference Centre (DICC) can only be booked by organizations participating in the Vth IUCN World Parks Congress. Congress organizers will take into account preferred date and time, but final allocation depends on demand and availability. The DICC Press Room will be set up with theatre-style seating (chairs only) and will have a capacity of 50 people. The standard equipment in the DICC Press Room will consist of a podium, a data projector screen, microphones for presenters and the audience, and an audio sound system. Event organizers will be required to bring their own laptops. A technician will be available to assist organizers. On-site Facilities

The media centre is located inside the DICC in rooms 12 A, B, C, E. This is on the lower level.

The media center comprises:

- A bullpen that includes 20 PC's and 20 telephone plug-ins plus telephone access on Worldcall. Seating for up to 50 media will be available.

- A Press Conference Room is situated next doo

- Two interview rooms are available. These must be booked with the on-site media logistics tea


Broadcast Infrastructure:

- Stand-up positions will be available in the main plenary hall
- Live audio plug-ins will be available in the main plenary hall (XLR connections - media to supply own cabling).
- Audio plug-ins will be available from Floor (English, French and Spanish is available in the plenary hall) However, please note, only Floor will be available in the media centre.

Press Briefings

On registration, media will be informed of details of an informal press gathering scheduled for the afternoon of 7th September 2003,.

A pre-congress press briefing will take place on 08 September at 12h00 in the Press Conference Room. This will be a joint press briefing between the SA Government and the IUCN.

Joint daily press briefings by the IUCN and the SA Government will take place from 12h00 - 13h00 in the Press Conference Room.

Please note that you will have to have been wearing your accreditation badge in order to attend these press briefing, as no entry will be permitted into the DICC without media accreditation badge.

For the duration of the Congress a daily roster of press briefings will be available at the media centre.

Field trips have been allocated, as requests have been received. Confirmation of field trip destinations will be posted at the Media Centre on 12 September 2003.

Opening Ceremony

The World Parks Congress Opening Ceremony commences at 16h00 on
08 September 2003 in the DICC. All accredited media have automatic entrance into the ceremony. Seating for media is reserved and ushers will be available to guide media to their seats, facilitate the technical needs of broadcast media, etc. Any queries should be directed to the media logistics office in the Media Centre.
