Introduction

While neither a Stream nor Cross cutting theme of the Congress, Tourism is an important sub-theme. WCPA -Task Force on Tourism & Protected Areas has co-ordinated the integration of Tourism-related issues into several Congress workshop streams, cross cutting themes, the plenary session Day 9 on Strategic Alliances and inclusion of a Tourism-specific Recommendation arising from the Congress.

Through the Congress, the WCPA -Task Force on Tourism & Protected Areas will input through COP 7 to CBD. and strengthen ongoing strategic alliances between IUCN - WCPA and key stakeholders involved in the development of policy and guidelines, seeking a more sustainable partnership between tourism and protected areas. The Task Force will support the IUCN "Building Support for Protected Areas" 10 year plan.

Congress Publication

A Task Force on Tourism & Protected Areas edited publication is envisaged drawing on all papers, discussion and outputs from the various sessions and recommendations relating to tourism.

Co-ordinators: Paul Eagles and Robyn Bushell, WCPA-TF - T&A

CABI Press have indicated willingness to publish the volume.

Conservation International and the United Nations Environment Programme Officially Launch the new publication, "Tourism and Biodiversity: Mapping Tourism's Global Footprint". This new report illustrates the overlap between tourism development and biodiversity priority areas in order to highlight tourism related opportunities and threats for conservation and human welfare. A Wine and Cheese reception will follow a short presentation and copies of the new publication will be distributed along with a CDROM.
