In 2011, the Seismic Survey Task Force was replaced by a Noise Task Force to allow the examination of issues related to noise and western gray whales that received less attention given the immediate requirement to develop a monitoring and mitigation plan for the 4-D survey. Although other noise issues had been raised during regular Panel meetings since 2008, the limited time available made it difficult to address medium- and long-term issues properly.
The first Noise Task Force meeting was held in Vancouver on 13-14 November 2011 and the second one will be held just before the 11th WGWAP meeting in February 2012.
