Mangroves for the Future (MFF) invests in coastal ecosystems for people and nature

Mangroves for the Future (MFF) is a unique multi-partner initiative to strengthen environmental sustainability of coastal development, and to promote investment in coastal ecosystems. MFF inaugurated its first Regional Review Forum on the 21st of April 2008, at the Heritance Hotel, Ahungalla, Sri Lanka. The Forum is a four day event hosted by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MOENR), Sri Lanka which brought together 60 participants including MFF partners, focal points, country representatives and international and regional technical expertise to review progress in detail of each MFF programme of work.

Dr. Ranjith Mahindapala has been appointed as the Country Representative of IUCN Sri Lanka  Country Office with effect from 15 February, 2008. He succeeds, Mrs. Shiranee Yasaratne who has moved to the Asia Regional Office. Dr. Mahindapala has been with IUCN for nearly 12 years, and previously served as the Director Programme of  IUCN Sri Lanka programme (1997 to 2003) and at the IUCN Asia Regional Office in Bangkok as the Deputy Regional Programme Coordinator (2004 – 2007). …

Green Coast: for nature and people after the tsunami

Workshop on the Lessons learnt from the Green Coast Project   25- 26 February 2008, Colombo   Four organizations, namely, Both ENDS, World Wide Fund for Nature and Natural Resources, Wetlands International and IUCN Netherlands Committee, implemented  a project entitled Coastal ecosystems and livelihoods after the tsunami during the period from July 2005 to December 2007 with funding from Oxfam N(o)VIB. This project focused on five Tsunami-affected countries in Asia: India, Indonesia, Sri-Lanka, Thailand and Malaysia.  In Sri Lanka, the IUCN Sri Lanka Country Office was vested with implementation responsibility.
