Since then, IUCN has made significant contributions to biodiversity conservation and environmental protection, particularly through the development of laws and policies.

IUCN Viet Nam focuses its work on the following thematic programmes: Business and Biodiversity, Forest ConservationProtected Area and World Heritage, Marine and Coastal Ecosystems, Water and Wetlands and Environmental Governance.

Launch of New Funding for Mangroves for the Future

IUCN, UNDP and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) today announced the launch of the third phase of the Mangroves for the Future (MFF) regional initiative with new funding from Sida. The new phase will run from 2014-2018 and will build on the significant achievements realized by MFF over the past seven years. Lois Lippold, from the Douc Langur Foundation, an SOS Grantee reports on another heartening development in her project's work to protect the Endangered Langurs and Gibbons of Vietnam's Chu Mom Ray Park. In August 2013, Lois reported the first successful arrest of a poacher in the park. But in the last three months alone, the Chu Mom Ray National Park have confiscated more than 100 motorbikes and destroyed 5795 snares and traps. …

Vietnam: The Ha Long Bay Alliance

Steep limestone pillars rising sharply out of the emerald green waters of Ha Long Bay – the image is synonymous with Vietnam. Every year, thousands of tourists visit this UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site to experience its majestic beauty. The weight of these visitors combined with rapid regional industrialization, however, is straining the bay’s environmental health. In response, the U.S. government, in partnership with the provincial (Quang Ninh) People’s Committee, has recently launched the Ha Long Bay Alliance.
