Opening ceremony for IUCN Lao new programme office sets agenda

Vientiane, Lao PDR: The new country programme office for IUCN, International Union for Conservation of Nature, was unveiled in a ceremony on 9 September 2014 at the IUCN office in Ban Sibounheuang. The event served to celebrate the achievements of IUCN’s 22-year presence in Lao PDR, to promote IUCN’s current projects and partnerships.and to outline the future for the IUCN country programme.

Late August last year, Simon Mahood who works with SOS grantee and IUCN Member, WCS Cambodia, joined Rous Vann, one of the project team's most experienced biological monitoring staff on a quest. Together they went in search of the Endangered Masked Finfoot (Heliopais personatus). One of the few places where the bird hangs on is Kulen Promtep Wildlife Sanctuary, deep in Cambodia’s Northern Plains.
