IUCN recommends action for natural World Heritage in danger

Key recommendations by IUCN, International Union for Conservation of Nature, on new and threatened natural World Heritage sites are released today ahead of the World Heritage Committee meeting which takes place in Bonn, Germany from 28 June to 8 July. IUCN recommends that Colombia’s Los Katíos be withdrawn from ‘in-danger’ status. It also recommends inscription for a new site in Jamaica and major extensions to two listed sites in Viet Nam and South Africa. Towards coastal resilience: Addressing climate change impacts in Ben Tre Province

Mangroves and Climate Change (MCC), a program under Mangroves for the Future (MFF), is focused on building resilience to climate change, decreasing vulnerability to disasters, and improving livelihoods. IUCN, International Union for Conservation of Nature, has coordinated the program in Vietnam since 2013, with the financial support of Danida, Sida and Norad. Within the framework of MFF, a Small Grant Facility (SGF) has been established to support coastal provinces in Viet Nam to develop coastal resilience models addressing climate change impacts. The purpose of these pilot projects is to protect coastal ecosystems, most notably through the sustainable use and management of mangroves. …
