The Global Forest and Climate Change Programme (GFCCP) is a global thematic programme of the IUCN Secretariat and
supports the forest-related activities of the Union. The GFCCP consists of a global secretariat based at the IUCN Headquarters
and out-posted staff in North America. The GFCCP also directly links to, and supports coordination between a worldwide
network of over 50 regional and country level forest officers, enabling it to add value to the work of IUCN members through both
field-based and policy-orientated interventions. The GFCCP is structured to create tangible links between field-based learning
and ongoing national and international policy dialogues with a view to catalyzing delivery of tangible results. In this respect, the
GFCCP is an active member of the Collaborative Partnership on Forests, The Forests Dialogue and acts as secretariat for the
Global Partnership on Forest Landscape Restoration.
The GFCCP’s work is centered on three mutually supporting themes of Climate Change Mitigation (with a focus on “pro-poor”
REDD+), Forest Landscape Restoration (FLR) and Locally Controlled Forests (ILC). While the GFCCP’s programme of work is
designed and implemented around these three thematic areas it is also expected to build synergies with IUCN’s work on private
sector engagement, economics, ecosystem-based adaptation and protected areas. Most of the GFCCP’s activities are delivered
jointly with IUCN regional programmes and the IUCN scientific expert commissions.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Forest Landscape Restoration Programme Officer will coordinate the planning, implementation and tracking of a portfolio of
projects as well as provide technical assistance and contribute to knowledge generation.
This portfolio is aimed at supporting partners in defining and implementing Forest Landscape Restoration commitments in
support to the Bonn Challenge target to restore 150 million hectares of degraded and deforested lands by 2020, underpinned by
national and sub-national strategies, clear resourcing frameworks, supportive policy and institutional frameworks, and early
action in landscapes.
Under the overall supervision of the Senior Manager, Forest Landscape Restoration, the Programme Officer will have the
following specific responsibilities:
Project management and implementation
• Create detailed work plans, budgets and schedules for successful project completion that effectively allocate the resources to
• Ensure that project activities are on-time, on-budget, and on-track for contributing to the achievement of the projects’
objectives and contractual obligations as well as the GFCCP’s programmatic objectives.
• Develop project monitoring and learning (M&L) systems in collaboration with the GFCCP M&L officer to measure the impacts
from the results of the projects and activities.
• Elaborate TORs and negotiate external contracts and internal agreements with partners, IUCN’s Regional and Country
programmes, and consultants, in collaboration with GFCPP project administration staff.
• Coordinate and monitor the administration of project budgets and work plans according to approved external contracts and
internal agreements, work plans, internal procedures and policies, and donor requirements.
• Prepare financial and technical reports and supporting documentation for funders as outlined in funding agreements.

• Provide specific technical assistance to project partners and colleagues to ensure the achievement of targets, results and
deliverables on time and with high quality.
• Promote exchange of technical information among projects.
• Be proactive in seeking and delivering innovative solutions and technical information to project partners and colleagues.
• Engage with national and international organizations to leverage the results and deliverables of the projects.
• In collaboration with the Manager, Landscape Restoration Knowledge and Science, develop and support the capture and
sharing of project related knowledge to ensure the timely and quality delivery of knowledge products for specific audiences and
other project outputs.
• Ensure effective information flow between all those engaged in or affected by project implementation.
• Establish files to ensure that all project information is appropriately documented and a communications schedule to update
stakeholders including appropriate staff on the progress of the projects.
Project and programme development and quality assurance
• Collaborate with the Monitoring and Learning Officer and partners to apply the M&E framework and its tools to demonstrate
the impacts of the projects and activities.
• Review the quality of the work completed with the project teams on a regular basis to ensure that it meets project standards.
• Facilitate effective collaboration between GFCCP team members, as appropriate, to ensure thematic alignment of project
• In close collaboration with the GFCCP team and regional colleagues design, develop and fundraise for new projects.
As requested by the Senior Manager, Forest Landscape Restoration, the Programme
• Represent IUCN on forest issues at political and technical meetings, seminars and other events and processes.
• Support the GFCCP activities by researching and synthesizing information on particular themes and issues relevant to the
work of the Programme.
• Supervise additional staff, consultants and interns.
• Carry out additional tasks as may be requested.
- Gross salary ranging from USD 77’000 to USD 95'000 per year

• Master’s Degree in a relevant discipline (land use, natural resource or environmental management, or other relevant

• Proven track record in coordinating multidisciplinary projects and team work
• Ability to work effectively within a large decentralized workforce of professionals of different nationalities and to mobilize it
towards common goals
• Organizational experience, including a proven ability to work on a variety of tasks simultaneously, and to perform well under

Intern, IUCN-CI Biodiversity Assessment Unit, IUCN Global Species Programme.
The IUCN Global Species Programme produces, maintains and manages The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species ™. It implements global species conservation initiatives, including Red List Biodiversity Assessment projects to assess the status of species for the IUCN Red List. The IUCN-CI Biodiversity Assessment Unit is currently working with NatureServe to gain a better understanding of the status and priorities for freshwater biodiversity throughout Canada. As part of this work a prioritization workshop to identify Key Biodiversity Areas for freshwater biodiversity in Canada is scheduled to take place in Toronto (Canada) in the week of July 20th 2015.
The incumbent will work closely with IUCN staff, principally in Washington D.C. and Toronto, to ensure that preparations (see listed items) for the above mentioned workshop are undertaken efficiently and within budget over the period of May-June 2015.
1. Lead process of organizing workshop logistics for July scheduled Key Biodiversity Assessment Workshop for Canadian Freshwater Biodiversity (Toronto). This primarily includes working with participating experts and IUCN/CI BAU staff to ensure travel and accommodation needs are met within budget.
2. Work with IUCN staff based in Toronto to establish Canadian Freshwater Biodiversity workshop venue.
3. Assist in finalizing any post-workshop logistics (final week of internship).
4. Assist IUCN/CI BAU staff with any pre-workshop species data collection as requested.
5. Participate as a facilitator in Toronto workshop (week starting 20th of July) if required.
6. Undertake any other duties as requested by Manager of IUCN/CI BAU within internship period.
The required qualifications are:
1. Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline, such as environmental studies, sustainable development, biology.
2. Experience or keen interest in the field of biodiversity/species conservation.
3. Good written and oral communication skills in English.
4. Excellent teamwork, coordination, and time management skills.
