Malaga hosts the 3rd Meeting of National correspondents of the Strategic Action Plan for the Conservation of the Mediterranean

After having convened the Second Meeting of National Correspondents of SAP BIO / MedMPAnet Project Inception Workshop in Istanbul (2 June 2010), RAC/SPA, the Regional Activity Centre for Specially Protected Areas, is presently convening the Third Meeting of National Correspondents of SAP BIO / MedMPAnet Project Mid-term Workshop. The meeting will be organized in Malaga (Spain) at Hotel Barceló Málaga from the 4th to the 6th of July 2012, with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment of Spain and IUCN Centre for Mediterranean Cooperation (IUCN-Med).

The Meeting will be opened on Wednesday 4th of July 2012 at 2.30 p.m. by the representatives of the host country, the Coordinating Unit for the Mediterranean Action Plan (UNEP/MAP) and RAC/SPA. 

The Secretarial will make an introduction on the progress so far made in the implementation of SAP BIO at regional level, since its adoption in 2003, including regional projects developed and will present the state of implementation of the Open Seas SPAMIs (Specially Protected Areas of Mediterranean Importance) Project during its two previous phases and the new follow-up planned within its upcoming phase III.  
 
Another important item on the agenda will be will the presentation of a project concept related to aquaculture management in coastal wetlands "Proposal related to climate change impacts mitigation and Ecosystem Approach to management of aquaculture: Mediterranean wetlands and lagoons rehabilitation project concept") and its related case study "Ecosystem approach to Aquaculture management and biodiversity conservation in a Mediterranean coastal wetland: case study of Doniana marshes" (Andalucia, Spain).
 
The IUCN Centre for Mediterranean Cooperation will organize a side event to present the latest marine publications coordinated by the Centre.
