BRICS states respond to global environmental challenges

The First Environmental Working Group Meeting of the BRICS States took place in April in St Petersburg, Russia, addressing urgent environmental issues. The discussion on water resources ecology resulted in the adoption of the "Clean Rivers of BRICS" programme. In 2009, UNEP and UNDP supported Sri Lanka to carry out the “Integrated Strategic Environment Assessment for the Northern Province (ISEA-North)”.
