IUCN@IPBES-12
From 3 to 8 February 2026, an IUCN delegation will participate in the 12th Plenary session of the Intergovernmental Science-policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES-12), in Manchester, United Kingdom.
This 12th session of the IPBES Plenary will focus on the theme of business and biodiversity.
The meeting will include the presentation of a report on progress in the implementation of the rolling work programme of the Platform up to 2030.
The Plenary will consider the Summary for Policymakers of a new assessment on the impact and dependence of business on biodiversity and nature’s contributions to people. If approved by Plenary, the Summary will be publicly available on 9 February.
There will also be discussions on capacity-building, data and knowledge management, and Indigenous and local knowledge systems to support policy-making, as well as on improving the effectiveness of the Platform.
IUCN’s role
IUCN will be represented in Manchester by a small "One Programme" delegation, advancing points proposed in the IUCN Input Paper for IPBES12.
IUCN is also supporting the organisation of a Stakeholder Day on 2 February. The Day Programme is available here. The IUCN SSC Global Biodiversity Framework Task Force will present IUCN RHINO (Rapid High-Integrity Nature-positive Outcomes) during a session on Science for Business Action.
IUCN and partners are also preparing data from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species™, the World Database of Key Biodiversity Areas, and the World Database on Protected and Conserved Areas to be ready for use by the authors of future IPBES assessments, including the second Global Assessment.
IUCN is grateful to the Government of France for their support to IUCN’s engagement with IPBES.
