IUCN Academy launches first Professional Certificate course on Nature-Positive action
Gland, Switzerland — The IUCN Academy this week launched its first-ever Professional Certificate course on IUCN RHINO, the organisation's approach for delivering Rapid High-Integrity Nature-positive Outcomes, with nearly 40 participants enrolled from across the public and private sectors.
The course, Strategic Nature Positive Action: Leveraging IBAT and the IUCN RHINO Approach, equips businesses, financial institutions and public authorities with science-based tools to assess nature-related risks, prioritise action and report credibly under the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF) and reporting and disclosure frameworks, such as the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD).
“This course marks an important step in helping practitioners apply science-based tools and methodologies — including IBAT and the IUCN RHINO approach — to prioritise where they can most effectively contribute to high-integrity, Nature Positive outcomes,” said Susanne Pedersen, Director of the IUCN Centre for Science and Knowledge.
IUCN RHINO builds on more than 30 case studies and pilots that have helped shape the approach and demonstrate its effective application in an operational setting. The approach, launched last year at IUCN’s World Conservation Congress, connects local action to global accountability, guiding organisations on what to do, where to act, and how to measure progress towards Nature Positive.
“With organisations under increasing pressure to report on their contributions to nature, IUCN RHINO provides a practical pathway to address growing nature-related risks and regulatory expectations, helping them move from commitment to credible, measurable action that demonstrates real progress to their stakeholders, investors and regulators,” said Martin Sneary, Director of IUCN’s Business and Nature.
Feedback from the inaugural cohort will inform the evolution of the course and broader guidance for applying IUCN RHINO. The course is offered through the IUCN Academy, which draws on the combined expertise of IUCN’s global expert network.
