IUCN Oceania welcomes the Colony Bees Association as a new Member
The IUCN Oceania Regional Office and the IUCN Australian Committee (ACIUCN) is pleased to welcome the Colony Bees Association as a new Member of the Union, further strengthening IUCN’s growing network of organisations committed to conservation and sustainable development across the Oceania region.
The admission was confirmed during the 117th meeting of the IUCN Council held in April 2026 in Gland, where new Members from around the world were formally welcomed into the Union. With 1,600 Member organisations globally, IUCN continues to bring together governments, civil society organisations, Indigenous Peoples’ Organisations, and experts working collectively to advance biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.
Established in 2021, the Colony Bees Association is an Australian charity organisation focused on the conservation of bees and other pollinators through research, education, and habitat restoration initiatives. Operating from New South Wales with activities across Australia, the organisation advocates for the protection of wild bee populations and greater awareness of the important role pollinators play in maintaining healthy ecosystems and supporting food systems.
Through community engagement, scientific initiatives, and conservation activities, the Association works to promote biodiversity, ecological resilience, and sustainable environmental practices. Its efforts also contribute to broader global conversations on climate action and sustainable development.
The organisation’s vision and ongoing work closely align with IUCN’s mission of conserving nature and ensuring that the use of natural resources is equitable and sustainable.
IUCN Oceania and ACIUCN, looks forward to working alongside the Colony Bees Association to support conservation efforts and strengthen collaboration on biodiversity and ecosystem resilience initiatives across the region.
