Stockholm Water Week offers the political momentum to build consensus behind these proposals before they are tabled in Abu Dhabi. IUCN stands ready to support Mem ber States, basin organizations and UN entities in translating Dialogues C, D and E into the concrete commitments the Global Framework for Water Governance and Action requires.
World Water Week convenes the global water community at a crucial moment ahead of the December 2026 UN Water Conference in Abu Dhabi. IUCN calls on Member States, basin organizations, UN entities and other stakeholders to capitalize on this global gath ering to accelerate momentum towards the conference. The 2026 UN Water Conference should be the moment of transformation in both implementing SDG6 and other wa ter-related goals and targets as well as a moment for a historic shift in the way water has been addressed within the multilateral system. Therefore – in Stockholm we hope to see real progress both in elevating and crystallizing the political ambition for the Conference to be a pivotal moment to deliver tangible change for global water governance, as well as enabling discussions to support the development of the Interactive Dialogue Flagship Initiatives to become key deliverables to accelerate implementation of SDG6. IUCN is primarily focusing on Dialogues: C (Water for the Planet), D (Water for Cooperation) and E (Water in Multilateral Processes).
