The ReSea project conducts a learning exchange visit in Tanzania

Under RESEA project, a regional peer-to-peer learning exchange took place in Tanzania from end of June to early July bringing together LMMAs community representatives and conservation practitioners from Kenya, Comoros, and Tanzania.

This initiative integrates activities championing blue planet, blue nature and blue people of the project and focuses on enhancing collaboration and capacity among women and youth involved in the blue economy, marine restoration, and Nature-based Solutions (NbS). Participants, including members of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) and Locally Managed Marine Areas (LMMAs), visited key sites in Tanga and Pemba Island to learn from successful community-led conservation and livelihood initiatives.

The exchange aimed at fostering regional collaboration, build technical skills through hands-on learning and promote inclusive leadership in marine governance. With a strong emphasis on gender equity, the program highlights the critical role of women and youth in restoration and conservation efforts.

Through field visits, practical demonstrations, and dialogue sessions, the initiative is strengthening cooperation between Western Indian Ocean Marine Protected Areas Network (WIOMPAN) and Locally Managed Marine Areas (LMMAs) networks while laying the groundwork for a long-term knowledge-sharing platform. The expected outcomes include improved governance, increased adoption of NbS, and empowered local actors leading sustainable marine resource management.
