CBA Scale+ Project Partners meet to validate Ecosystem Study and plan activities for 2026

From 24 to 26 February 2026, government officials, technical experts, and conservation partners gathered in Vilankulos to take a decisive step toward strengthening climate resilience in Mozambique’s Inhambane Province. Convened under the CBA Scale+ Project, the strategic meetings focused on presenting and validating a comprehensive ecosystem study covering Govuro, Inhassoro, Vilankulo, and Mabote districts. The study maps land use, land cover, and key environmental dynamics that shape local livelihoods, providing a critical evidence base to guide climate adaptation planning and sustainable natural resource management.

From 24 to 26 February 2026, the district of Vilankulos hosted strategic meetings under the CBA Scale+ Project. Representatives of the district government, technicians and partners participated in the presentation and validation of the ecosystem study carried out in the districts of Govuro, Inhassoro, Vilankulo and Mabote, in the province of Inhambane.

The study the purpose of the study was to map land use and land cover, as well as ecosystems and environmental dynamics that directly influence the livelihoods of communities. The results will serve to support the planning of adaptation actions and to assist district governments and communities in the sustainable management of natural resources.

The District Administrator of Vilankulos, José Jeremias, highlighted that the meeting was an important opportunity to validate essential information and  That the document is a strategic tool to support CBA-Scale+ decisions and actions, enabling the prioritization of conservation, restoration, and sustainable land-use measures, while ensuring the protection of our ecosystems and strengthening the livelihoods of local communities.

During the session, representatives of District Planning and Infrastructure Service, District Economic Activities Service and implementing partners validated the mapping of ecosystems, reinforcing institutional commitment to concrete climate adaptation actions.

Following the validation of the study, CBA Scale+ partners IUCN, CARE, Peace Parks Foundation, Malhalhe, and AJOAGO met to assess progress from 2025 and set priorities for 2026, with a focus on monitoring, learning, communicating results, and identifying challenges and opportunities.

The CBA Scale+ Project aims to strengthen the climate resilience of more than 100 communities in Zambia, Zimbabwe and Mozambique, through participatory, gender-responsive and nature-based approaches. The initiative is funded by the German Government, through the BMUV's International Climate Initiative (IKI), reinforcing the commitment to sustainable solutions for beneficiary communities.
