Kathy was my one and only female mentor when I arrived as a young biologist in Indonesia. I couldn't have had a better one. She lead the way in a sea of men with dignity, passion and intelligence, convincing me I could do the same. We shared a love of Sulawesi (and it's black macaques) and a drive to see large chunks of the world's biodiversity protected. I learned so much from her over the years. I loved her to pieces.
