Subnational government Members

Subnational government Members

In September 2021, IUCN Members meeting in Marseille voted to introduce a new category for local governments to the IUCN Membership, allowing for recognition of the critical role subnational governments and cities have in creating a sustainable future and achieving our global mission to protect and restore biodiversity. Until this important change, subnational governments had few global platforms to influence the global environmental agenda, given that representation is generally at a national scale. Subnational governments now join IUCN with a full voice and can table and debate motions, thereby directly influencing the global conservation agenda.
