1st Webinar on Environmental Law launched for Civil Society Organisations

Shared Resources – Joint Solutions (SRJS) is a 5-year strategic partnership between IUCN NL, WWF Netherlands and the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Together with over 50 NGOs and civil society organisations in 16 low- and middle-income countries and international partners, we aim to safeguard healthy, biodiverse ecosystems in order to protect climate resilience, the water supply and food security. We do so by strengthening our joint capacities to increase our influence in multi-stakeholder partnerships with governments and businesses. Together, we are working to strengthen our leverage in successfully advocating for inclusive and green development.

Enhance the capacity of civil society organizations with regards to monitoring compliance with the rule of law is one component of the SRJS. The IUCN Environmental Law Centre supports the design and implementation of the capacity building on environmental law in English, Spanish and French.

On January 23, 2018, IUCN Environmental Law Centre organized the first SRJS webinar on environmental law in English with participants from Cambodia, Ghana, Indonesia, Myanmar, Philippines, Tuvalu and Uganda. The webinar was opened with an introduction of the IUCN Environmental Law Centre and the 2018 plan for environmental law capacity building.  A Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on environmental law was introduced and followed by a presentation on ECOLEX, one of the most comprehensive information platforms of environmental law.  The meeting was concluded with a round of questions and answers. Similar webinars will be conducted in Spanish and French in the coming weeks for partners in Africa and Latin America.

Presentation and record of the webinar are available here.
