"Law and Nature Dialogues" is a monthly webinar series featuring distinguished scholars from around the world, including Australia, Belgium, China, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom. On 22 February 2021, Professor Qin Tianbao opened the webinar series with his presentation “The Evolution and Challenges of China’s Implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity”. In his presentation, Professor Tianbao recognized the role of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) to protect and conserve biodiversity in China. He cautioned, however, that current analytic frameworks fail to effectively measure implementation of the CBD by countries like China which is in the process of rapid socioeconomic progress. Alternatively, Professor Tianbao proposed a new analytic framework composed of four factors: (1) Development philosophy and model; (2) Perception of national environmental interests; (3) Economic and technological level; (4) Attitude toward global environmental governance. The new analytic framework is fully presented in the recent publication "The evolution and challenges in China’s implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity: a new analytical framework". Professor Tianbao’s lecture received interest across five continents, with more than 200 registered participants.

CEL invites you to join the next webinar in the series “The European Union’s 2030 Biodiversity Strategy” presented by Prof. An Cliquet from the Department of European, Public and International Law at Ghent University, Belgium. For more information, please visit the CEL website here
