The theme for this year’s HLPF is “Building back better from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) while advancing the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The 2022 HLPF will review in-depth SDG4 (quality education), 5 (gender equality), 14 (life below water), 15 (life on land), and 17 (partnerships for the Goals), while emphasising their crucial interlinkages. It will also provide an opportunity for 44 countries to present their Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs), and numerous side events, special events, and exhibitions will take place on the margins of the Forum.

IUCN Director General Dr Bruno Oberle has been invited by the President of ECOSOC to sit on the panel of experts for the official review of SDG15. He will head a small delegation to represent IUCN at the HLPF, to continue to profile its work to advance implementation of the Goals, in particular SDGs 14 and 15.

The meeting convenes from 5-15 July 2022 in New York, including a high-level segment 13-15 July.
