Four - Days Training workshop on Geographical Information System came to an end

Four- Days Training workshop on Geographical Information System came to an end. Secretary Planning and Development was the Chief guest on the occasion.

A Four-Days training workshop was organized by IUCN Pakistan under its Balochistan Partnership for Sustainable Development (BPSD) programme with the financial assistance of the Embassy of the Netherlands at a local hotel. Twenty participants from Academia, Government line department and Civil society organization representatives completed the training session successfully.

Keeping in view the deficiency in the capacity of the stakeholders the Balochistan Partnership for Sustainable Development (BPSD) is implementing its capacity building programme for the academia government and civil society.

Manager Balochistan Mr.Zabardast Khan Bangash expressing his views about the training stated that it is essential to use the GIS and Remote Sensing technology in planning, implementation and monitoring of the projects at all levels.. He told that Geographical Information System is very important and it can be used in Government Agencies, civil society and Emergency services. He also shared that nature has already provided examples for human beings and birds and animals have a built-in GPS which enables them to find their routes. so we should learn it from the nature. Mr.Zabardast Khan Bangash acknowledged the efforts all /IUCNBPSD staff who made this event successful.

Ms.Rabia Zaffar Lecturer Sardar Bahadur Khan Women University shared her views on behalf of all the participants. She appreciated IUCN interventions and told that IUCN is the only Organization facilitating and building the capacity towards the conservation of natural resources of the province.      

Resource person Mr.Ghulam Qadir also shared his views about the training and thanked the participant.

Chief Guest Mr. Meeran Jan Kakar Secretary.P&D gave his views that IUCN has done a great job. He communicated that Government tof Balochistan cherished the efforts of IUCN in the province and  throughout  Pakistan. He further emphasized that nature is very significant for human being but we didn’t give due importance to it. He further expressed that we have destroyed our forests and other natural resources. He also stated that after 18 amendment the provincial resources to conserve the environment have been tripled. He anticipated that the participants’ knowledge related to GIS have been enhanced and in future they will implement in their respective fields of work. At the end he stressed upon the need and importance of GIS role especially, in the context of Balochistan.


In the end certificates were distributed among the participants by the Chief Guest and Manager IUCN Balochistan Quetta.
