IUCN Eastern and Southern Africa Regional Office is responsible for the delivery of the global 2021–2024 intersessional plan through a regional strategic approach that is built upon a coherent set of priority thematic areas and the attendant crosscutting elements that were approved by Members and confirmed at the WCC in 2021.

Building on the global framework, ESARO has distilled the priorities into three aspirational thematic areas namely: land systems, coastal and ocean resilience and integrated water resources management and the attendant crosscutting aspects of biodiversity, climate change, gender and youth.
