Catalyzing Nature-based Solutions for Climate and Biodiversity Action: Global Commitments to Local Action
Immediately following the ministerial launch of the ENACT Partnership as part of Biodiversity Day, this UNFCCC Pavilion Event will convene a high-level panel of representatives to discuss the operationalization and next steps for the initiative; to share global commitments on scaling up action on NbS across the different identified initiative workstreams (i.e. adaptation; food security; health; carbon; oceans); and to lay out the collective pathway for catalyzing transformative action.

Nature-based Solutions have the potential to provide up to 30% of the global mitigation required to achieve the 1.5 °C target under the Paris Agreement (Griscom et al 2017), together with the potential to reduce the intensity of climate hazards by 26 percent, representing protection against the economic cost of climate change by USD 104 billion by 2030 and USD 393 billion by 2050 (IFRC & WWF, 2022).
On Biodiversity Day, to drive collective action on climate change and biodiversity, the COP27 Presidency in collaboration with the IUCN will launch the ENACT Partnership on Nature-based Solutions to serve as a hub for Party and non-Party stakeholders working on NbS to bring coherence to global activities, to share experiences and knowledge, to support the implementation of NbS activities on the ground, and to bring a collective voice to the global community on NbS to inform policy alignment across climate and biodiversity negotiations.
