Nature-based Solutions for Health
A new WHO-IUCN guidance will be launched at this event for biodiversity policymakers on the integration of health and Nature-based Solutions, laying out concrete actions to protect biodiversity, nature and ecosystem health.
Biodiversity and ecosystem health underpins human well-being, from climate resilience, to food and water security, to human health. Investing in Nature-based Solutions to protect, conserve and restore natural ecosystems can offer a catalytic opportunity for health, biodiversity and climate actors to work together to drive improved health outcomes at the root of the issue. Building policy coherency at the public health, environment, and climate nexus through the lens of NbS can help prevent future health risks associated with ecosystem degradation, biodiversity loss and climate change. This session will showcase the intertwined connections between ecosystem health, climate change and human health and share immediate actions that policymakers can take to work towards these shared solutions. This session will launch new WHO-IUCN guidance for biodiversity policymakers on the integration of health and Nature-based Solutions, laying out concrete actions that COP attendees can take to protect biodiversity, nature and ecosystem health for far-reaching outcomes for human health. Experts from across the health, biodiversity, and conservation sectors will come together in an exciting dialogue focused on the health-biodiversity-climate nexus, including the health argument for accelerating integrated biodiversity and climate action, and how these solutions can be taken forward within CBD COP15 decisions and the post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework.
